A California Home Is Powerful in White
Jack's house at 226 North was featured in House Beautiful, January 2009. Fabulous restoration work and was on the Healdsburg Historic Home tour this last year. Pottery Barn will be doing a photoshoot upcoming in the next few weeks so not to worry with all the trucks, etc. Myra Hoffer is his decorator and is interviewed in the article.

Love Barb's post as always, but the designer's comments don't resonate with me. OK. I admit it. I like old fashioned. It looks great now from the outside but the house in its previous incarnation reminded me of the house next door to my grandmother's in Reno owned by Grandma's friend Mildred Levy and her big spotted dog Pepper. When the designer calls it's former incarnation "clunky" and "big box", that's through her chic, minimal-maximal, oyster-pottery barn eyes. Through my eyes it was a wonderful reminder of times gone by, when people painted fences together, sat around visiting in neighbor's kitchens while little kids snooped in every nook and cranny. In other words, sometimes you can just let it be.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I would like to congratulate you on getting this award. I can just say that you deserve it because you have done a tremendous job in restoring this house despite this ongoing global recession.
